“Which skin care products do I apply first? How to layer skin care correctly? Does it really matter if you apply your face oil before your moisturizer? Or if you put on your vitamin C after your retinol?” If your routine is only 3-steps or you have time for a full 10-step regimen at night, the order you apply your products in matters. You can have the most amazing skincare routine in the world, but if you’re applying your products in the wrong order, you can prevent your skin from receiving the full benefits and waste money.
Order to Apply Skin Care Products
A basic rule of thumb on how to layer skin care is to apply skincare products from thinnest to thickest consistency. The products with the most important ingredients and antioxidants should penetrate the skin first, then moving into the thicker products such as moisturizers and oils.
How to Layer Skin Care Products – Morning Skin care Routine
I encourage you to wake up a few minutes early in order to consistently apply your daily skincare products. If you’re running late, however, and only have time for a few. Cleanse, moisturize, and use SPF! I’ve made the routine for you guys to try out and figure out what works best for your skin! Note: skincare routine is like weaning a baby, do not introduce all the products at once. Do a skincare analysis -to discuss with you skincare specialist on what products your skin will needs.
STEP 1: CLEANSER
Using a cleanser in the morning is important. Believe it or not, your skin can accumulate environmental debris in your sleep, so it’s necessary to wash them off in the morning. “Dead skin cells and allergens may collect on your pillowcase and be transferred to the facial skin throughout the night, skin natural oils/your night care oils can also accumulate on the skin overnight, so properly removing them is crucial for your morning routine to be effective. Why? Removing the oils allows for better penetration of skin products and proper application of makeup. To get glowing skin, I recommend cleansing in the morning specifically to boost skin hydration levels—
- If your skin is acne prone | oily | combination skin type I recommend you use Clarifying cleanser -An anti-bacterial gel cleanser that removes dirt and excess oil leaving the Skin clean and feeling refreshed.
- For sensitive | dry | normal skin type, I recommend you use a Hydrating cleanser a gentle facial wash that removes daily impurities without drying the skin.
- For mature/ ageing skin condition, I recommend you use Renewing cleanser An ultra-moisturizing milk cleanser that removes impurities, hydrates and restores a youthful glow.
STEP 2: TONER
Back in the 90s and early 20s day, toners were these alcohol-based liquids that irritated the hell out of your face. But today’s toners are filled with either gentle, hydrating ingredients to coddle dry skin, or with chemical exfoliants to treat acne. I use renewing toner an anti-ageing skin toner formulated to balance, refresh, and restore the skin’s moisture balance. It works well for an AM and PM routine.
- For sensitive | dry | normal skin type, I recommend you use a Hydrating Toner.
- If your skin is acne prone | oily | combination skin type I recommend you use
Clarifying Toner A pore refining toner formulated to balance, refresh, and restore the skin’sprotective pH mantle while removing excess oil.
STEP 3: ANTIOXIDANT SERUM + HYDRATING SERUM
Serums are honestly the heavy lifters of your skincare routine. They are super-concentrated, nutrient-dense treatments that address specific concerns. In the morning, L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is a must for protecting your skin from UV rays and environmental pollutants.
- If your skin is acne prone | oily | combination skin type I recommend you use – Clarifying serum- A micro-exfoliating serum with an active AHA/ BHA complex that is designed to refine pores, improve skin texture and stimulate cellular renewal. Use: am and/or pm Apply a thin layer to clean skin and massage into face and neck until fully absorbed.
- For sensitive | dry | normal skin type, I recommend you use a Hydrating serum. A moisture-rich serum that provides all day hydration, reduces inflammation and redness, smoothes fine lines and restores balance.
- For mature/ ageing skin condition, I recommend you use Renewing serum a highly active firming serum that encourages cellular turnover, reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
STEP 4: EYE CREAM
It’s vital to apply an eye cream at least every night, if not twice a day, starting in your 20s. Choose an eye cream subjective to your own under-eye needs. The area around the eye should be treated with caution ,it has very few sebaceous gland , hence that explains why aging lines are more noticeable around the eyes .I love Renewing eye cream A firming eye cream that deeply hydrates, plumps, tightens and refines fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes. It has been clinically proven to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and puffiness.

STEP 5: MOISTURIZER
Once your serums and eye gel are fully absorbed, follow up with a moisturizer to further prime and prep your skin for the day ahead.
- Hydrating cream. Works well. This cream feels soft and I love the fact that it can be used for oily / sensitive / dry skin type. The smell is clean and light.
- For mature/ ageing skin condition, I recommend you use Renewing day cream A powerful anti-wrinkle cream that encourages cellular turnover, firms and tightens the skin reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
STEP 6: SUNSCREEN
Sunscreen should be the last step in your daytime skincare routine. Find a solid SPF and use it EVERY DAY. I use Nivea Sun UV Sunscreen Face Shine Control Cream for Mat Look SPF50, This is the BEST face sunscreen!! This has no white residue and makes your skin so glowy but not greasy. With a non-comedogenic formula, it doesn’t clog my pores, does not leave a white cast, and it is non-greasy and wears well with my makeup.
What Order to Apply Your Skincare Products at Night
As your skin naturally repairs itself at night, your nighttime routine should be all about the treatment and giving your skin what it needs. A nightly skin routine is a little more extensive than the morning. A typical nighttime skincare routine will look relatively similar to a daytime routine with a few minor tweaks.
Tip: Cover your neck, chest, and decalage when you’re putting on products as well. Use excess products on the top of your hands.
STEP 1: MAKEUP REMOVER
Makeup Removers-Properly prep your skin for a deeper clean for clear, healthier looking skin .Try NEUTROGENAeye makeup removers & makeup remover wipes to remove makeup the right way. But you can also source other brands from the cosmetic shops .

STEP 4: TREATMENT SERUMS
Like the rest of the body, skin does the bulk of its repairing, restoring and regenerating as we sleep. This is why most treatment serums/creams are better used at night. But instead of using every single product in sight, only use serums base on your skin’s of-the-moment needs.
4a. RETINOL: ONE-THREE TIMES/WEEK

If you’re dealing with acne, you can apply a spot treatment next. Use CLARIFYING SOLUTION – A powerful anti-bacterial solution that exfoliates, refines pores and restores balance to acne-prone skin. Pour a small amount onto a damp cotton pad and apply evenly over the problematic area. Please use with extreme care and use only as prescribed by your therapist. **Specifically for Acne. Slight stinging, dryness and exfoliation is considered to be normal with use of this product

STEP 7: MOISTURIZER
Nighttime is when you can use a moisturizer that’s richer than what you would typically use in the morning. I love D,vine Hydrating night cream sensitive / dry skin type. & Renewing night cream for mature skin so moisturizing.
STEP 8: LIP MASK
Don’t forget your lips! A nighly lip mask is essential, which I just recently discovered. I like to Use a concentrated oil blend of olive, argan, rosehip, and raspberry seed work overtime to hydrate our lips while sleeping! It gives you baby soft lips!!
